Record-Breaking A Level Results

The release of A Level results by the various examining boards at the end of August brought news of further record-breaking success to St Patrick’s Grammar School, Armagh with 2 students in the school, Christopher Staines and Cormac O’Neill achieving an amazing 5 A*/A grades in their A Level exams.

Speaking after the publication of A Level results last week, Fr Kevin Donaghy, Headmaster of St Patrick’s Grammar School, congratulated the boys, their parents and the staff of the school in the role they all played in the exceptional performance of this year’s cohort of A level students.

“I realise that such impressive results at St Patrick’s Grammar School can only be achieved by our students’ dedicated application to study. I commend and thank them all, and their parents and families for their support, commitment and cooperation.  I must also express my gratitude and appreciation to the teachers of so many A Level and vocational subjects here at St Patrick’s Grammar School who, with their enthusiastic and committed teaching and encouragement, have done so much to help our students perform so successfully again this year.”

“I would like to draw particular attention to the outstanding achievements of two of our students, Christopher Staines, Brankinstown Road, Aghalee and Cormac O’Neill, Clover Hill, Moy,  whose performance of an outstanding 5 A*/A grades at A level is unparalleled. I congratulate Cormac and Christopher and their parents and teachers and wish them well with their future studies. Cormac, with his A*/A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics has been accepted by Queen’s College, Cambridge, while Christopher with his A*/A grades in Economics, English Literature, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics and has been accepted to study at Merton College, Oxford”

A further 6 students in St Patrick’s Grammar School achieved a record-breaking 4 A/A* grades in last week’s tranche of results. Andrew Comiskey, Mountnab Road, Markethill, plans to study Law with French at the prestigious University College, London, while Shane McElvanna, Tullysaran Road, Armagh has been accepted to Queen’s University, Belfast to study Pharmacy. Also accepted by Queen’s to study Mechanical Engineering is Jordan McCooe, Moy Road, Portadown. Fintan Corvan, Drumnahavil Road, Derrynoose, who also achieved 4 A*/A grades plans to study Medicine at Aberdeen University while Barry McNeice from The Beeches, Portadown will join classmate Jordan McCooe to study Mechanical Engineering in Queen’s University.Eoghan O’Neill, Clover Hill, Moy with his 4 A*/A grades in Economics, History, Maths and Politics, plans to go to Trinity College, Dublin to study for a degree in Economics and Maths.

In addition to the students who achieved 4 grade As in their A levels, a large number of students in St Patrick’s achieved 3 straight A*/A Grades, guaranteeing them a place in the third level course of their choice; Joseph Brannigan (Moy Road, Armagh), Conor Breen (Ashgrove Close, Lurgan), Matthew Campbell (Old Coach Road, Armagh), Stephen Curley (Portadown Road, Armagh), Dominic Derry (Portadown Road, Armagh), Joshua Drake (The Grange, Lurgan), Shay Grimley (Umgola Court, Armagh), Joseph Guy (Knox’s Hill, Armagh), Conor McAleavey (Magheraville Road, Milford), Conor Quinn (Old Town Road, Cullyhanna), Adam Smith (Ashbrook, Portadown) and Ruairi Sweeney (Millbrook Court, Lurgan)
